AirPods are Apple‘s most successful new product in recent years. It is therefore little wonder that a new generation AirPods 3 is on the way. But you still have to be patient.
In the past few months, there have been repeated rumors about AirPods Pro-Lite, and the devices should appear shortly, but this always led to nothing. Only the reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo brought light into the darkness and cleared up the speculations with his statements.
AirPods Pro-Lite = AirPods 3?
The statements about the AirPods Pro-Lite were rarely clear and brought only a few details. Kuo, therefore, explained that Apple is working on a new generation of AirPods. However, the new model should represent a departure from the previous design.
Confusion about the AirPods Pro-Lite should have been caused by the fact that the AirPods of the third generation should take over the design of the AirPods Pro. This can be attributed to the fact that Apple uses the same hardware architecture and thus allows a more compact design.
It is unclear whether Apple is only downsizing the new AirPods or whether they will also inherit functions such as the silicone inserts. Active noise suppression, on the other hand, shouldn’t be expected as it would then be too similar to the Pro model in terms of both price and features.
No New AirPods in 2020
But when can we expect the new AirPods? Traditionally, Apple has allowed a lot of time between the model generations so that users recently had to wait around two years for new functions such as wireless charging to be introduced. It could be the same as the third generation.
The current model appeared in March 2019 and, according to a DigiTimes report, you shouldn’t expect the upgrade this year. Much more, Apple should prepare suppliers like Inventec for a market launch in the first half of 2021, two years after the second generation.
Will you wait or is the current model enough for you? What features should it offer? Let us know in the comments.
