AMD confirmed on Monday that the third Ryzen Threadripper 3990X chip will be launched in 2020. AMD’s latest Ryzen Threadripper high-end desktop (HEDT) chips will come after 3970X and 3960X on the market today.
AMD said the 3990X will receive 64 cores, 128 threads, a total of 288 MB cache and 280 Watt thermal design power (TDP). Unfortunately, the company did not provide additional details such as frequencies but promised to provide more information next year.
We don’t know anything about the clock speeds of this CPU right now, so there is speculation that they may be lower to maintain thermal performance.
3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990x
Saied Moshkelani in early November said:
With our 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors, AMD is once again raising the performance bar significantly for creators, developers, and PC enthusiasts. 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processors combine leadership performance and energy efficiency to create the ultimate high-end desktop solution.
It is not hard to see that AMD can use the CES 2020 in Las Vegas in January to provide additional information about the upcoming Ryzen Threadripper 3990X chip. But don’t expect it to come cheap; AMD‘s first two, third-generation Threadripper chips cost $ 1,999.
